COUNCIL ELECTIONS

So what’s it all about? The annual Council elections are an opportunity for members to be a part of the running and influence the future of the Society.

The Arab Horse Society is governed by an elected Council of twelve Trustee Directors who are responsible for running the Society, each being expected to sit on one of the three committees, Stud Book & Registration, Shows & Events and Public Relations. Each committee is supported by Direct Elect Members who do not have the same level of responsibility as full Trustee Directors but are able to bring their own special knowledge and experience to help the Society.

The rules dictate nominees for both Trustees and Direct Elect Member vacancies must have been an AHS member for the last three years and be supported by two proposer members. Elected Trustee Directors and Direct Elect Members may serve for a maximum period of three years though they may stand for re-election after this. Download the Trustee Director nomination form.

Each year there are four vacancies (a third) of Trustee Director positions who are operationally responsible and work towards achieving the aims and objectives of the Society. This involves around six meetings each year with the majority now utilising modern technology being virtual meetings. There is occasionally a requirement to meet at the AHS offices in Hungerford. The election of Direct Elect Members runs in conjunction with Trustee Directors elections. Download the Direct Elect Member nomination form.

The election of the Honorary President (Elect) also takes place at this time and applications are invited from members. The Honorary President role is to be an ambassador and representative of the Society at various events so promoting the Society to the public. Download the Honorary President nomination form.

Nomination forms for all the above positions are available to download here or please contact Linda Whincup in the office on 01672 521411 to arrange a form to be sent to you. The deadline for receipt of nomination forms at Agriculture House is 31st January annually and all appointees take office with effect from the AGM.
